Up For Grabs - A Free Copy Of Billings 3, LittleSnapper And A 6 Month Subscription To Tuts+

Hi Guys! D-Lists has passed the 150,000 views mark while I was away on holiday! So I thought it was time to celebrate and reward/thank everyone who has contributed to that number. I cant say thank you enough.

I’ve done my best to produce what I think is a pretty brilliant prize bundle. One lucky winner will be given a free copy of the fantastic invoicing app, Billings 3. Not only that but that same winner will also get a copy of LittleSnapper the best way to capture and store screen captures on your mac. Oh and it doesn’t stop there, they will also be lucky enough to gain a 6 month subscription to the tuts+ network, giving them access to literally hundreds of wonderful tutorials and source files! Awesome Designer Showcase – 123Klan

Awesome Designer Showcase – 123Klan

Today I wanted to showcase my favourite French creative group, 123Klan. I’ve always loved their vinyl toys and their graffiti and have recently been finding more and more of their work. Their style is very recognisable, which has led to some huge brand names asking them to produce that style for them. Feast your eyes on this! (read more…)

Awesome Designer Showcase – Rod Hunt

Awesome Designer Showcase - Rod Hunt

You could say Rod has a very different ‘perspective’ on life. The amazing British illustrator produces most of his work using an isometric point of view, giving his work a similar feel to Eboy and the likes. However, Rod does not use the pixelated style of Eboy he prefers to use a highly detailed and vector approach. It really is amazing how much detail goes into every one of Rod’s illustrations.

Have a really good look at the work in this showcase, you’ll be finding lovely little touches for quite some time. (read more…)

A showcase of sites displaying twitter feeds

A showcase of sites displaying twitter feeds

Twitter has saturated such a huge percentage of the design community in recent months. All you have to do these days is put Twitter in your blog post and you’re guaranteed to increase your sites visits. (Not the reason I’m writing this…honest.)

Anyway, Twitter has become so much a part of the design culture that nearly every new portfolio or blog is trying to incorporate it into their site. Some, have chosen to keep it simple and include just a link to their twitter page allowing people who decide they want to to follow them. However, some sites are taking advantage of Twitter’s very simple API to pull in their latest tweets onto the blog/portfolio.

The jury is still out for me if doing this has any more impact than a simple follow me link. I would say that either can be effective as long as they are well designed and catch the viewers attention.

I have put together a showcase of some of the best inclusions of twitter in recent weeks, to give you some ideas if you are thinking of including the same on your website.

I’d love to know what option you have chosen for your website and if including it on your site has increased your follower count so please leave a comment with your choice. (read more…)

Awesome Designer Showcase – Non-Format

Awesome Designer Showcase - Non-Format

Everywhere I look lately I find a great piece of work from Non-Format and I guess there are two reasons for that. The first being their worldwide client base, they work for some of the biggest brands in the world. Secondly, all of their work is hugely creative so any piece can be described as great.

While Non-Format’s work span every design discipline there is it’s their typographical treatment that really catches my eye and where they made their name. There is no wonder why clients are fighting to hire non-format. (read more…)

Awesome Designer Showcase – Simon Oxley

Awesome Designer Showcase – Simon Oxley

Simon Oxley is a hugely talented illustrator. He uses a simple illustrative style to create some very original characters and funny characters. I personally love his use of muted colours and grainy textures to give them a hand made feel.

Anyway, enough of me babbling about him you can have a looksee for yourself! (read more…)

Call To Action, Best Practice

Call To Action, Best Practice

The aim of most websites is to persuade the user to act. The actions can range from buying, downloading, signing up etc. However, there is no use trying to persuade someone to act if you then make it impossible for them to find the place to do so.

A well designed call to action can increase the number of people who perform the desired action on your site. It can make or break your website. Here is a list of tips to ensure your calls to action work for you and your users.
