D-Lists 1st Birthday Celebration!!

D-Lists 1st Birthday Celebration!!

Well the end of May marks the end of the 1st full year of D-Lists and I thought I should do something to celebrate and say thank you to everyone who has made this year of blogging so enjoyable!

How the first year went

I started D-Lists because I wanted a place to share all of the inspiration I had been collecting. I spend a lot of my time looking for amazing design work and felt that at least some people might quite like to see what I found.

At the beginning I was a little unsure as to exactly what I wanted D-Lists to be, but as I got into it I decided to focus on showcasing design work from around the web.

563,079 page views in just over a year

The visits started off slowly, but within a few, and once I had decided to focus all my efforts on design showcases, I was averaging around 40,000 page views a month.

278,642 visits

In a little over 12 months, D-Lists has posted 204 times and received 563,079 page views, which I would consider a massive success for a blog run by one guy just wanting to share a little bit of beautiful design.

I’m not ashamed to say that I spend about an hour a week posting my inspiration lists to all manner of blogs, social media streams etc. This would explain why nearly 70% of my traffic comes from ‘Referring sites’ and I’d like to say a massive thank you to all of the services that have helped me promote my stuff. Without them, my stats would be MUCH less impressive.

One aim I do have for the second year of D-Lists, is to increase the percentage of people coming to the site from search engines. It would be nice to rely on them to bring more than 6% of the traffic. If anyone has any advice on that it would be greatly received.

The most popular post on D-Lists so far, has been Guerrilla advertising

The top 3 most popular posts on D-Lists so far have been:

Guerrilla Advertising – Creative Attention Seeking

Innovative Product Design

The Very Best Web Designs Of 2009

I really enjoy creating the showcases on D-Lists and the little success it has had has enabled me to guest write on a number of amazing blogs, which has been a massive achievement for me.

I’d just like to say one last MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has ever had a look at D-Lists, without you’re support D-Lists wouldn’t have continued and I would have reverted back to saving all the designs in my LittleSnapper and nothing more. I’m really humbled that anyone would want to look at D-Lists and I just hope that you have found a tiny bit of inspiration here.

So, to say thank you with more than just words, I have asked some really lovely people if they could help me put together a little prize fund and I have been able to get some top quality prizes to give away! There are going to be 8 winners so be sure to enter as your chances of winning are high!

Happy birthday and long Life to D-lists! You’re right, your stats are great for a one-guy website :) Thanks for your featuring, my own stats say : thanks :)
For my part, if I had to choose a gift it would be the “Moo cards” in order to make my own business card :)
Once again : thanks for the work you’ve done to always keep high quality web design inspiration lists !!
    Happy Birthday :)

As an aspiring designer, a lot of my work is local. As such, I need business cards. I know they’re a great way to make a good first impression, and I’ve always LOVED print design, and the concept of communicating a lot in a small amount of space. The business cards from Moo are beautifully characteristic of that.

    Happy 1st to d-lists. Long live d’King. ;)

First of all happy birthday !!!!
If I won I would like the business cards – as a student freelance designer I need to take the next step. To give someone a business card for me is like a dream – I wanna flash my swagger and strut my stuff – giving the first impression I believe is what I need to start attaining real clients :)

P.s I will settle for some birthday cake ( a biiiig slice) :-p

    Hey man,
Props on making it to a year of this! I know how hard it is to maintain a commitment like this so congrats for not getting bored after a couple of months haha! Eagerly waiting on the big redesign too.. I’m expecting big things from a design guru like yourself! :)

Oh, and great prizes by the way.. What would I choose(?) Hmm.. Brush Pilot, Go Media, that WordPress pdf, Moo Cards? Nah, actually, I’d go for Billings personally. Because Klok, Excel spreadsheets and Indesign don’t really make for an easy workflow when it comes to keeping track of work and invoices etc!

Your blog is so great for some much-needed design inspiration! And I just really love looking at others’ work. If possible I would like to get a copy of Billings – I’m a just-starting freelance typesetter and could use some good software for the financial side of things!
    Cheers!

Congrats on getting so much traffic in your first year. Those are some pretty impressive numbers. I guess you contest is already over by now so I won’t bother letting you know which prize I would like. I just wanted to say congrats on your success.
